Minimalism Challenge

Becker Vineyards

Living in a five person household, it’s easy to accumulate a lot of stuff, even when you’re not trying to.  In an effort to reduce clutter and get rid of things we no longer need, we are going to embark on a 30 day minimalism challenge during the month of November.  After a quick online search, I found a challenge perfect for our needs here at Minimalism Is Simple.

Now we don’t intend to go full blown minimalist over here, getting rid of everything and moving into a tiny house.  However, I think it’ll be a neat exercise and I hope we uncover lots of great things to donate and clear out some space.

We’ll be posting our progress throughout the month.  If you’re also looking to simplify your life, we hope you’ll join us on your own minimalism challenge!

And no, that is not our cute little house in the background.  The photo was taken at a really charming winery we visited over the weekend just outside of Fredericksburg, TX, called Becker Vineyards.  We highly recommend stopping by if you’re ever in the area.

I love wine tasting in Fredericksburg! Especially bringing a picnic lunch from home… I just wish we lived closer to that area.

I will have to check out your minimalism challenge. I am always trying to purge stuff from the house,I keep empty diaper boxes in different closets so that I can toss a ‘donate’ item in it as soon as the thought “I dont think we use this anymore” crosses into my mind. With the holidays approaching, I’ve been trying to figure out how to minimize the toys and gifts to my kids. Mr. SSC is a bit more of a ‘collector’ than me, so we will never live in a tiny house, but we do talk about building one when we ‘retire’ renting it out as a vacation rental, and then using it for visiting guests…. that way our main house can be smaller, but we still have room for family and friends to visit!

As an unexpected benefit, the winery was doing free tastings for military personnel. Needless to say, we did not turn that down! We bought a bottle as a thank you.

We’re trying to minimize gifts for the kids, too. That’s always an interesting balance.

And what a neat idea to build a little casita on your property. You can bring in a little extra money and give visitors some personal space!

I can’t wait to follow along. I’ve been thinking about doing something like this for a long time. Kids and stuff! Amiright? We have to replace our carpet in February/Marchish… so we’ve talked about taking the time we have to move all the stuff to go through everything. I’m looking forward to it! And a 5-person household minimalism challenge is just what we need.
